A Sackful of Grick
The party meets in Denton.
Paxton sees a grey cloaked figure at the Inn.
Paxton looks for work in town, and meets Tara and Fin after seeing their job posting on the bulletin board looking for a guide.
The party also sees a posting by Benton Wheatman to take some grain to Zauberfeld, in the magistracy, for 8GP.
A woman, Arlette, runs into the inn, looking for Ralson the Innkeep, complaining about her small Grick getting loose in her warehouse. She offers the party 2GP for it's capture in alive, or a silver apiece if it's dead.
After battling the Grick in the warehouse, they see the grey hooded stranger from the Inn there as well, who is capturing the Grick himself with the aid of a Sleep spell. He interrogates the party as to why they're investigating the Broke River area.
Paxton asks Arlette if the owlbear puppies ("cute in a terrifying sort of way") are for sale.
Tara and Fin offer to split Benton's fee with Paxton on top of his guide fee.
Benton tells the party he has 24 bushels of wheat to be delivered to Hans Miller, who'll pay the party 28GP, which Benton needs brought back to him, at which point he'll pay the party 8GP. Hell also give. them 100CP for expenses, as well as a wagon, horses and supplies. If they can't bring the gold back, Hans will pay the party 4GP himself.
The horses are named Bud and Bart.
Benton suggests taking the trail road to Mulder's Bunk, then keep on the path to Feldkirk Road to Feldkirk, then keep going through the marshes and up the road to Zauberfeld, and ask for Hans Miller.
Its about 200 miles to Feldkirk Road, and another 100 to the Broken River, and 125 miles to Zauberfeld - about 27 days of travel at 16 miles a day.
Fin, being paranoid, casts Detects Magic over the wagon, finding nothing.
Mike points out that for things like perception rolls, he'll be rolling the dice to prevent the players from metagaming based on seeing obviously low or high rolls.
Paxton notices that they grey cloaked wizard is following them on a horse, which worries the party.
Mulder's Bunk is a mostly industrial city, with aqueducts, pulp mills, tanners, smith's, butchers, etc. Doesn't smell great. No city wall, though some districts have their own. The party elects to bypass the city and make camp in the countryside on the other side.
Paxton explains that he's a pacifist; the party accepts his philosophy, since he's proven his utility as a healer and buffer during the Grick fight and journey from Denton.
After a night's rest, the party continues on, still followed by the grey cloaked wizard.
